STEUBENVILLE NUTCRACKER VILLAGE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR ORIGINAL MUSICAL

Steubenville’s Nutcracker Village and Advent Market, following its successful premier last Christmas time, will bring its most popular nutcracker characters to life in a new feature for 2016: an original musical comedy set in Steubenville.

The musical, tentatively entitled Wooden Heart Follies, was written by Steubenville residents Von and John Holmes. It incorporates the familiar music of Tchaikovsky from The Nutcracker Suite, but with modern lyrics, telling the story of the joys and sorrows of being a large wooden toy in a human world.

Auditions for the premier of the Nutcracker musical will be held in the lobby of the Grand Theater, 121 South 4th Street in Steubenville, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 13.

Adult actors (18 and over) will be needed for a variety of character roles, some singing, some speaking only. The characters are based on the most popular nutcracker figures from 2015 and a few new ones: the Firefighter, the Patrolman, the Gondolier, the Baker, the Prince, St. Nicholas, Clara, Adelaide the Schoolteacher, the Soldier, and the Mad Scientist.

Rehearsal commitment for this show will be Monday through Thursday, starting September 19 and running through November 23; performances will be four successive Sundays starting right after Thanksgiving: November 27 and December 4, 11, and 18.

Actors should come prepared to read dialogue from the play and to sing “Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music (which is close in range and articulation to the music for this play).

Coffee with the Author
Peggy Strain

Wednesday, September 28 at NOON
The Gathering Place Coffee Shop
Paris Presbyterian Church
127 Steubenville Pike
Paris (Burgettstown), PA

Peggy Strain will be our featured author. She will be talking to us about her new book Reflecting His Light . Recently, Peggy and Deb King began writing together again, this time remotely, e-mailing devotions back and forth. Many hours were spent on the phone and in prayer. They entitled this latest book Reflecting His Light – Devotions Expressing God’s Love. Each of these devotions has been written from their hearts and reflects their love for the Lord. Peggy and Deb have discovered through the years that their greatest joy comes when they can share their love for the Lord through the words they write.
Join us for a light lunch and presentation with Peggy. This is one event you will not want to miss.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
You will find as you read through these devotions that they are very personal. The authors, Peggy Strain and Deb King, started sharing their personal beliefs and relationship with the Lord many years ago while participating in the ladies’ Sharing and Caring Bible Study Group, which has met in Peggy’s home for the past twenty-one years. Their in-depth Bible study and prayer time inspired Peggy and Deb to write devotions.
Peggy and Deb began their inspirational collaboration by meeting for church each Sunday, followed by sharing devotions they had written over a cup of coffee at a local restaurant. Initially, they would discuss and edit each other’s work, but soon they felt the nudging from the Lord to make their writings into a book.
With approximately 40 devotions written, they were ready to self-publish a book entitled Joyful Journey – Inspirational Writings from Above. They typed it at home, printed it, and spiral bound it, giving the book to family and friends and selling them at local book stores and craft shows.
Then came their children’s book of five stories entitled Bedtime Stories – Saying Goodnight to God. This came about when the Sharing and Caring Bible Study ladies started writing with metaphors that represented each other’s personalities and their lives. These metaphors were woven into a children’s story format, so that young children could enjoy them, yet their deeper meanings represented the lives of those friends gathered. This book has touched the lives of many children and adults as well.
Peggy is a contributing author in My Turn to Care – Encouragement for Caregivers of Aging Parents, and has had a daily devotion published in The Secret Place. She has also been a member of Pennwriters, Inc., a network of writers across Pennsylvania and beyond since it was established in 1988. Peggy is an Elder in the Paris Presbyterian Church ECO in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
Recently, Peggy and Deb began writing together again, this time remotely, e-mailing devotions back and forth.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Reflecting His Light:
Devotions Expressing God’s Love
Written by: Peggy Strain and Debra L. King

Reflecting His Light is a devotional book that encourages readers to walk in the light of Jesus and to be reflectors of His love. Anecdotes from the authors’ lives illustrate how God works, extending His love even to the mundane. Readers will identify with these shared experiences and see how God is working in their own lives.

No matter who you are, be it a teenager or in the later stages of life, whether you are married or divorced, a career professional, or even unemployed, choosing to follow Jesus and reflecting His love to those around you is the way to happiness, fulfillment, and a bright and glorious future.

This book is the ideal companion for your daily devotional time. The easy-to-read format supplements daily scripture passages with practical devotional thoughts and prayers that challenge readers to grow deeper in their personal relationship with God.

Reflecting His Light will touch the lives of numerous readers—the perfect gift for yourself or a loved one. It’s the authors’ prayer that it will embolden the weak and bring peace and comfort to the stressed. Show God’s love by being His reflector to encourage and inspire someone today!
